Fleeing from the Francoist troops entering Barcelona at the end of the Spanish Civil War, Lola and Felip see with desperation as their daughter Maria is kidnapped by the Falangists. Forced into exile, the couple is confined to the concentration camp of Argelers. Felip will return to Barcelona to try to recover his daughter but will end up in Africa, where he will fight for five years under the command of General Leclerc. In France, Lola will meet Manel, a refugee smuggler, whom she won't be able to help falling in love with.
